Here comes our dreaded coronavirus
Our latest curse host, threatening to expire us
But, why now prescribe even more social distance?
We’re already succumbing from social indifference
Though history shows we’ve bonded in crisis
We’re facing this plague… self-serving, divisive
How do we quarantine contagious alienating?
Where’s our vaccine for viral segregating?
Does forced isolation grant civil immunity?
Fear of transmission, cede moral impunity
Now, more than ever, we need to close distance
Now, more than ever, we need coexistence
Coronavirus, are we truly your victims?
Or, are we the virus of our own self afflictions?
Did you cause us…or did we cause you?
Are you payback for diseasing our truth?
Are you here to suffocate us … coronavirus?
Or, choke us awake…in time to respire us?
Are you our mercenary-sentenced pandemic?
Or mercifully divined, emergency paramedic?
Can we socially distance being socially responsive?
Be socially conscious with love’s social conscience?
May I not touch your skin, yet still touch your heart
Can we find closer now… while staying apart?
