When Adult Secrets Were Child’s Play…

Back in the day, when naive was righteous…
Secrets stretched honesty without cheating it…
Prolonging our innocence without corrupting it…
Giving to childhood instead of taking it from us…

Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy and friends…
Spun tantalizing truths from their faithful fables,
Guiding our principles through wholesome whimsy…
Tween trustworthy parents and trusting children…

Secrets mysterious, simply fired our fantasies…
Just making believe was excitement enough…
We were gullible little angels teased by suspense…
Anticipating ambush from pleasures in hiding…

Secrets warmed fears against cold casted futures…
Playfully postponing life’s promised pressures…
Warning about dangers of too much too soon…
Of impulse aborting what patience rewards…

Young growing pains were nature’s unveiling…
Not heisting of pure by blunt trauma betrayal…
Adult secrets non-sinister were child rites of passage…
To be gratefully learned from gradually earned…

But, secreting today exposes usas traitors…
Surrendering our scruples thru reckless revealings…
Reality show imposters, posing for profits…
Selfie baring zombies of “15 second” infamy…

We’re now twofaced secrets we can’t confide in,
The more we divulge the less we’ve disclosed
The more we tell all… the less truth be told…
Nothing is sacred…cause “NOTHING” IS sacred…

Forfeiting what’s left of chaste childhood decency…
We are born again thieves of wide eyed prey…
Defiling the immaculate once stolen from us…
Reprising fresh victims with perverse predation…

We hatch puberty’s preemies before they’re ready…
Present day prodigies impetuously presumed…
Inheriting adulthood without having deserved it…
Generation “neXt” …never knowing why…

Under our cover lie camouflaged lies…
Orchestrated sham suppressing our shame…
Skeletons living, deadening our souls…
Buried remains of a less duplicitous era…

Santa’s now commerce; Easter’s secularized…
Tooth Fairy’s toothless …all myths without magic…
We’ve no secret left for imagining what could be
All that awaits is our next cruel surprise…
